I analysed this video on YouTube via this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoZFnkchtv0
This is the beginning shot for sub focuses music video which shows Nicholas Douwma the main artist walking into what seems to be his basement. This shot uses natural light which is coming from the room above. This shows that he is a normal person like anyone else.
This shot is of Nicholas Douwma as he looks at some plans and studies them. this shot uses mainly natural light or the light from the basement except for the two LEDs although they don't make much of a difference.
Here we can see Nicholas Douwma as he brings the plans/ his creation to life which in a way represents his album as he has brought it to life. The lighting used is very unusual as there are rectangles of blue on his face so it is likely that it was edited in after the shot was taken.
Nicholas Douwma then places the creation / cube onto his head and with the use of 3d effects the editor has made a 3d cube which has many lights constantly rotating around it. this looks really good and compared to the rather bland start shocks the viewers as it is unexpected. The lighting used in this shot other than the cubes lighting is natural light which shows the amazed expression on his face.
This shot shows Nicholas Douwma as he walks up the street towards the camera with the animated cube following his head as if it is a helmet. This scene is very unusual which in a way represents his music. The lighting used in this shot like the previous shot is natural light which shows the casual clothes that he is wearing and his casual walk.
Here it shows Nicholas Douwma as he holds the animated cube above his head and shows it to the world. the scene is of what looks like a wealthy businuss block. The lighting is from street lights and the office blocks windows.
This shot is of the cubes lights just after its hit the ground as the animator has broken the light up and has started to move it around the ground and trough the air as if they've let it loose. this shot uses a large variety of colours to attract its audience along with the natural light to make it seem life like.
this shot is from the end of the video when the light has spread all over the city and lit up nearby buildings this shows us where the video was shot. the shot is very colourful which is really attractive as it goes well with the natural light from night. it is likely that they used 3d editing software to create this shot as fitting each room with a different coloured light and syncing them would take a very long time.
Overall
this music video of Sub Focuses song (Could This Be Real) uses very simple shots as it is mainly a man walking out of his house and down a few streets which would be extremely easy to do as it would only take two people and a camera.the main attraction in this clip is the cube and the lights which would of been created using 3d editing soft ware as the editor has simple motion tracked Nicholas Douwma's face and has made a 3d animation follow track his head. there are also many lights on the cube which tend to flash/change with the beats of the music like many other music videos. This alone completes the music video and without it it would be extremely bland and boring to watch.
